Each year, Central Electric crews respond to incidents involving farm machinery contacting poles, power lines and electrical equipment.

Remember to look up and look out for overhead and underground electrical equipment during planting season. If you contact a power line, please follow these safety guidelines.

1. STAY PUT and CALL 911 or your electric utility. Stay in the tractor or vehicle.

2. If there’s a fire, JUMP CLEAR from the equipment. To avoid electrocution, do not touch the equipment and the ground at the same time.

3. SHUFFLE with your feet together or HOP at least 40 feet away from the equipment. Walking or running puts you at risk for electrocution.

Accidents can happen to anyone, and many occur while completing routine activities that are performed on a regular basis. This is a dangerous situation that can be avoided.
