Plankinton Ambulance Association Receives Grant for New Radios

(Plankinton, SD)—The Plankinton Ambulance Association received a grant for $2,200 from the Central Electric Operation Round-Up program to purchase new handheld radios for the volunteers.

Technology evolves quickly and that includes equipment used by our first responders as well. The previously radios they carried were out of date and began having issues. The new radios will provide reliable communication and consistency among the volunteers.

“It is a benefit to our citizens as we are a volunteer service covering this area,” stated Secretary/Treasurer Amy Bultsma. Volunteer services heavily rely on the support of their communities and citizens, and this helps alleviate their needs.

The Plankinton Ambulance serves a population of approximately 970 people over 265 square miles and has also assisted neighboring departments when needed.

Operation Round-Up is a voluntary program were members’ electric bills are rounded up to the nearest dollar. The cents flow into a charitable fund to make a direct impact in the communities of Central Electric members. The next round of grant applications is due November 1, 2019.  For more information about the Operation Round-Up program, visit the Operation Round-Up webpage
