The White Lake Cemetery Association recently accepted a $500 Operation Round-Up® grant from Central Electric Cooperative for tree trimming and removal.
In the grant application, Erin Walti, cemetery board secretary, explained, "The White Lake Cemetery Association is continuing with updates, including resetting and repairing headstones, removing trees and fences, putting in new roads and surveying a new portion of land to provide new gravesites."
"We have been working with many local volunteers to accomplish our goals," Walti said. Anybody interested in donating to support the upkeep of the cemetery can send funds to the cemetery's Venmo account @WLSDCemetery or contact Walti at 605-680-0207.
Operation Round-Up is a voluntary program in which Central Electric members round up their monthly statement to the next whole dollar, and the extra cents accumulate to support local projects.
Julie Dykstra of rural Stickney serves on the Operation Round-Up board of trustees for Aurora County. She said, "The White Lake cemetery is beautiful and well kept. It's evident the volunteer cemetery committee works diligently on maintenance and improvements."
The next grant application deadline is Nov. 1. For more information about the program, call 605-996-7516 or visit www.centralec.coop and click on member programs.
